How to Add Silver Jewelry to a Beauty Salon or Concept Store

How to Add Silver Jewelry to a Beauty Salon or Concept Store

A small jewelry counter is one of the simplest add-ons for a salon or concept store. What to buy first, how much to spend and how to display it.

You can add silver jewelry to a beauty salon or concept store with a small first order of about USD 500: 18 to 35 pieces across 4 to 7 designs at 5 pieces each. Start with easy, size-free pieces such as huggies, studs, pendants and adjustable rings, in one or two finishes. Your customers already trust your taste, so a small, well-chosen range works better than a big one. You need a registered business to buy wholesale, and you can use ready-made designs before you think about your own.

We get this question from salon owners and shop owners who have no jewelry experience. Here is the short plan we would give them.

Why jewelry suits a salon or concept store

  • It takes up little space. A small counter or tray is enough.
  • It doesn't go off. Sterling silver doesn't expire the way many salon products do. Store it well, and it keeps.
  • Your customers are already thinking about how they look. They have time to browse while they wait, and they're looking in a mirror.
  • It suits gifting. Customers pick up a small gift while they're there.

What to buy first

Choose pieces that fit everyone and are easy to understand.

TypeWhy it worksStarting quantity
Huggies and hoopsWorn every day, the best-known style2 designs x 5
StudsLow price, an easy add-on1 to 2 designs x 5
PendantsSize-free, and they suit gifts2 designs x 5
Adjustable ringsOne size fits most, with no stock of each size1 to 2 designs x 5

What to leave for later: fixed-size rings (you would need every size), heavy bangles (high price, slow to sell) and very trend-led pieces. Our first order guide goes further on how to split a first order.

Keep the finishes simple. One silver finish and one gold finish are enough for a small counter. With us, you can mix designs and finishes in a single order, for example 3 in silver and 2 in gold of the same design.

Your own designs, or ready-made?

Most small shops should start with ready-made pieces. Your own designs need 20 pieces per design and a larger budget, and you don't yet know what your customers will buy. Sell for a few months first, then see what they like. If you would like your shop name on the pieces, we can stamp your logo on catalogue designs. See private label jewelry. When you're ready for your own designs, see custom jewelry manufacturing.

Setting up the counter

  • Place it where people wait. The reception desk or the seating area is better than a back shelf.
  • Show a small range. Ten to twenty pieces on a neutral tray or stand look more special than a crowded case.
  • Provide a mirror. People buy what they've tried on.
  • Label the price clearly. Many people won't ask.
  • Store pieces in pouches or closed trays. Silver tarnishes in open air, and salons often have chemicals and humidity in the air. Keep jewelry away from hair and nail products. See our jewelry care guide.
  • Think about try-ons. Earrings are the difficult one. Many shops keep earrings as no-try-on items and clean anything that has been tried on.

Pricing

Multiply your landed cost, including shipping and duty, by 2 to 3 as a starting point, and compare with what similar shops near you charge. Our guide to markup on sterling silver jewelry has a worked example.

Before you sell

Check your local rules. Some countries require hallmarks for silver above a certain weight. In the UK, silver pieces over 7.78 g need a UK hallmark. Your business registration may also need to cover retail sales of jewelry. Ask your accountant.

Frequently asked questions

Can a beauty salon buy jewelry wholesale?

Yes, if you have a registered business and buy for resale. You don't have to be a jewelry shop. Apply for a trade account with your business details. Applications are usually approved the same day.

How much should I spend on my first jewelry order?

We would keep it small. Our minimum first order is USD 500, which buys about 18 to 35 pieces at typical prices. See how they sell, then reorder what works.

Can I buy just a few pieces to test?

Our minimum is 5 pieces per design and USD 500 per first order. For one piece to look at, ask us for a sample.

Do I need to hold stock?

Yes, for a counter. Because we make to order, reorders take about a week plus shipping, so reorder before you run out of your bestsellers.
