Wholesale Sterling Silver Earrings: Styles That Sell and How to Build a Range
Earrings are the easiest jewelry category to sell and the easiest to overbuy. Here's how to choose styles, closures and finishes, and build a wholesale earring range that keeps moving.
Why earrings are the backbone of a jewelry range
If a shop sells only one jewelry category, it's usually earrings. They don't come in sizes, they suit every age group, they're easy to try on in a mirror and they make simple gifts. Many customers also wear several pairs at once, especially with multiple piercings, so one visit can turn into two or three purchases.
That popularity is also the risk. With so many styles available, it's easy to end up with a drawer of earrings that all look alike. This guide covers how to choose earring styles, closures and finishes, and how to build a wholesale sterling silver earring range that keeps selling.
Earring styles to stock
Our wholesale sterling silver earrings range runs to around 580 designs in 925 silver. They fall into a handful of families, and a good range draws on most of them.
Drop and dangle earrings
The largest family in most catalogues, and in ours. Drops move as the wearer moves, catch the light and photograph well. They range from small, delicate drops for everyday wear to longer statement pieces. See drop earrings.
Stud earrings
The everyday staple. Small studs sell all year, suit second and third piercings, and work as gifts for every age. Stone-set studs add sparkle at a modest price. See stud earrings.
Hoops and huggies
Small hoops that hug the earlobe are one of the steadiest sellers in silver jewelry. They're easy to wear daily and easy to stack. Our huggie earrings buying guide covers diameter, thickness and closures in detail. See hoops and huggies.
Long and chandelier earrings
Longer, more dramatic pieces for evenings and occasions. They carry a higher price and draw attention to the display, so a few designs go a long way. See long earrings and chandelier earrings.
Single earrings
Sold as one piece rather than a pair. They're made for ear stacking and mismatched looks, where customers build their own combination across several piercings. See single earrings.
Motif earrings
Evil eye, hearts, moons and stars, and other symbols. They sell to customers who buy for meaning and tie earrings into a motif display with pendants and bracelets.
Closures matter more than buyers think
The closure decides whether a customer can wear an earring comfortably all day, and whether it stays in. Across our range the closure depends on the design:
- Butterfly (push) backs on studs. Simple and familiar.
- Hooks on many drops. Easy to put in, light to wear.
- Lever-backs on drops that need to feel more secure. A good choice for customers worried about losing an earring. See lever-back earrings.
- Hinged hoops on huggies and small hoops, closing with a click.
Each product page shows the closure for that design. When you build a range, offer a mix, so customers who want a more secure fit or a lighter feel have options.
Weight and price
Silver is priced by weight, and earrings vary more than most buyers expect. In our range, earring designs run from about 1.2 grams for the smallest studs to over 20 grams for large statement pieces, with most around 4.3 grams. Use the listed weight to place each design in your range:
- Light studs and small huggies for entry prices and impulse buys near the till.
- Mid-weight drops and stone-set studs as the core of the range.
- Heavy statement earrings for occasions and display impact.
If you sell in the UK, read our guide for UK shops for how the UK hallmarking rule relates to weight.
Choosing finishes
Earrings see less friction than rings or bracelets, so plating lasts well on them. That makes earrings a good category for gold and rose gold plating, even at a lighter plating thickness.
- Gold plated earrings suit the warm, layered look that dominates current styling.
- Rhodium plated keeps a bright white finish that matches silver necklaces and rings.
- Plain silver is the classic choice and the easiest to describe.
You choose the plating and thickness per design, per order. Our plating and quality page explains the options, and our care guide covers what to tell customers.
A first wholesale earring order
A practical first earring order for a boutique or online shop:
- 15 to 20 designs, weighted towards studs, huggies and small drops, with a few statement pieces.
- 5 pieces of each design, our minimum per design.
- A couple of single earrings if your customers are into ear stacking.
- Two finishes on your best designs, for example gold and silver, to see which your customers prefer.
That comes to 75 to 100 pairs, enough to fill a stand and learn what sells. After four to six weeks, reorder the winners and replace the rest. Every order ships within about a week of payment confirmation, so plan reorders before popular designs run out.
Displaying earrings
- Group by style, not by price. Studs together, hoops together, drops together. Customers shop by look.
- Use a mirror. Earrings sell when customers can try them against their face.
- Show a stack. A display ear or photo showing a stud, a huggie and a single earring together sells the idea of buying more than one.

Frequently asked questions
What is the minimum order for wholesale earrings?
At Ruvolla the minimum is 5 pieces per design. You can mix many earring designs, styles and finishes in one order as long as each design meets that minimum.
Which earring styles sell best in a shop?
Small studs, huggies and simple drops are the most consistent everyday sellers. Statement and chandelier earrings sell in smaller numbers but draw attention to the whole display.
What earring closures do you offer?
The closure depends on the design. Across our range we use butterfly backs for studs, hooks, lever-backs and hinged hoops, and each product page shows the closure for that model.
Do you sell single earrings?
Yes. We offer single earrings sold as one piece, made for ear stacking and mixed looks across several piercings.
What is the best plating for earrings?
Earrings see less friction than rings or bracelets, so gold, rose gold and rhodium plating all last well on them. Gold plated earrings are especially popular for everyday and layered looks.
How much do sterling silver earrings weigh?
In our range, earring designs weigh from about 1.2 grams for small studs to over 20 grams for large statement pieces, with most around 4.3 grams. Weight is the main driver of price.
